Scrapability’s Scrap Blog of the Week -Week 6 2006 : Mixed Media Memoirs

Mixed Media Memoirs is a very new blog, with big objectives, similar to many other Meme or challenge type blogs such as Self Portrait Tuesday or some of the photo or sketch challenges. As the owner, Melba has a vision that appears to be a cross between scrapbooking our memories, and the art journals which are taking our world by storm lately. The intentions of MMM are to provide Monday challenges to spur participants on to create new entries documenting in mixed media either old journal entries about ourselves, or new ones created to fit the challenge theme.

Any previous participants in Shimelle Laine’s Art Journal online classes, or even Book of Me type classes will see the similarities and possibiities in participating in something similar as a regular challenge. The  topics posted each week do not close down, so you have forever to accomplish them, with no duress to even provide something.

Even though I don’t have old journal entries on topic subjects, they freshly provide inspiration for me to accomplish them. Current participant’s work is published on Mixed Media Memoirs at the moment, and they all provide food for thought to any viewers. Art Journal or Mixed Media collages seem so much easier to do than sometimes a full on Book of Me type album of scrapbooking layouts. If you enjoy online classes such as Shimelle’s Art Journal class, then perhaps MMM might allow you to go on with further weekly inspiration to create more pages along these lines. Consider some of the ideas being discussed on this new website also - either bounding separate pages up as books in the future, or taking the inspiration from topics and creating these as actual scrapbook layouts for your own album - the possibilities are limitless.

 As a very new blog and website, MMM hasn’t been open long, and the list of current participants is small. Previous topics are - "This is me", "The Past that Lingers" and the current topic - "Again, I Find Myself" From my own perspective, MMM has the potential to get larger with more participation similarly to what has lately happened with Self Portrait Tuesday.
