Creativity MEME

This from the Wendy Girl Designs Blog (I’m not sure where it came from originally) -

1. The biggest enemy to creativity is __________.

2. The only thing I know for sure about the creative process is _________________________.

3. What do you need to jumpstart your creative mojo?

My Responses:

  1.  The biggest enemy to creativity is —— myself. Sometimes I’m just too tired, there’s too much else to do. I know that when I do start creating, it’s all good - ie I get into the zone and then tiredness be darned. Why I don’t do it - priorities, restrictions on myself, guilt in not spending more time with the family, feeling that my stuff is somehow not up to scratch with what other people are doing (ie not remembering why I’m doing it in the first place), feeling lonely just sitting here creating, having only a weekend to do it in….blah blah blah. Me - I’m my biggest enemy.
  2. The only thing I know for sure about the creative process is —- someone out there will always have the idea first, or published first, or credited first. There are no firsts in this, it’s not a race to creativity. It’s the zone.
  3. What do I need to jumpstart my own mojo?
    • Get the domestics out of there first, so I don’t worry about them - this includes the blogging domestics and committments to other people also. I’m a worrywart - it stiffens the mojo.
    • Time alone - lot’s of time alone
    • Nature - walks through the village, or sitting out on my garden bench. Again, this is time alone, to simply muse
    • Sometimes - to simply "waste" time browsing around other artist’s websites / blogs - inspiration comes from everywhere
    • Comfort food - stodgy good casseroles or chocolate
    • Background noise - not music - I find that distracting (yes, I know this is odd) - I prefer to have a television in the other room or a radio on as distant background noise. White noise, people talking - makes me feel safe.
This was a Creativity meme - I tag everyone if you want to pick up on it.
