Other Bloglines Features

It is not my objective to run you through the full feature set of Bloglines. Many scrapbloggers who read quite a few blogs are perfectly happy with the ability to subscribe easily and read all their blog feeds in the one place.

But if you’re interested, take a look around Bloglines to see if you can work out and utilise the following =

Step

Action

1.

Blogroll Wizard

If you setup the profile on your blogs to be Public, you can share these as a blogroll. Other people will be able to go to your bloglines account to read these blogs. Check the Tips section for more information on this. You can also nominate which folders you want to be public, and take a piece of HTML to drop into your own blog to provide this blogroll.

2

Email Subscriptions

Bloglines provides unlimited email subscriptions which can appear in a Bloglines blog. Check out the Email Subscriptions page for more information.

3

A Bloglines Blog

Yes, you can create a bloglines blog, within the second tab after My Feeds. You can enter journal entries, tied into a calendar, and you can make it public or private.

4

Clip Blogs

The clippings tag is actually quite helpful – whilst reading a blog in Bloglines, you will notice a Clip/Blog this at the bottom of the entry. Click on this, and a separate window comes up.

This simply can be published to your Bloglines blog (see above) or to the Clippings folder. The Clippings folder can have separate folder names created to categorise our clippings also.

This is a great way to save interesting blog articles as you find them and read them. Once into the Clippings Tab, the Bloglines entry is cached in there in total.

Finally, a Tip for Usage and Etiquette

Bloglines (and similar aggregators) is a fantastic tool – especially when you start bookmarking more than a dozen blogs. But remember – if the blog is interesting enough to Bloglines, then it’s worth a proper real visit too. If you find a blog entry that is thought provoking, or fun, or whatever – click on the Title link, and visit the actual blog itself.

Everyone appreciates actual live readers, and comments as well. You can’t give them that from a Bloglines account. But it will make your blogosphere life a little easier.
