ScrapBlog Series : Why Blog II : ProScrapblogging

scrapblog for newbies.pngIt wasn’t initially on my radar to write a bit about the marketing potential of a blog. I thought that the Scrapblog Series was more targeted towards those scrappers who were contemplating a scrapbooking blog, or wanted to get more out of theirs personally.

However, there are many (and let me emphasise the many again) many scrapbloggers who see the marketing potential of a blog, whether as a place to build up and keep our individual profiles or to actually sell ourselves or our wares through. In some certain respect, even a blog like that of Ali Edwards or Rhonna Farrer are excellent pro-blogs in maintaining a relationship and personal appearance with their fans, even if not apparently selling anything. I say apparently, because lately there has been a big trend in such individuals to sell the odd T-Shirt through a Cafe Press shop, and promote these links through their blogs anyway.

Digital Designers have often used their own blogs for marketing of their designs, using jpegs for promotion of their latest kits, and links to their online stores. Freebies are often available through these blogs also - normally through free file sharing services such as YouSendIt.

My own blog, Scrapability, has done more for my own self-promotional needs (not that I actually want to become a paid designer in the business) than any quantity of uploads into galleries may have done for me. This was accidental, but nice. This blog promotes me, my ideas, my work and profile - whether I want it to or not. I do not sell anything as a Scrapbook Business, I do not make any money for what this Blog or I do. But I’m still an individual scrapper in this industry, who has a promotional opportunity with this personal blog.

And that’s all I want or think it necessary to say towards Pro (Professional) Blogging, or Blogs as Marketing Tools. Because I think the best reference I can currently give you is this one - if you are interested -

Angie Pedersen has just announced the opening of her new website, ScrapbookMarketing.com.  If you sign up (it’s free) you will get a free ebook entitled, "Scrapbook Marketing: 27 Ways to Promote Your Scrapbooking Business with a Blog!"

And no, she didn’t pay me, or even tell me about this. I believe in kizmet. I think that EBook would make very interesting reading for us all. You’re here, afterall - so you probably think blogs are a big thing anyway.
