DotSCRAP Alliance

It was my birthday today (and a wonderful one it was too - new hair, a new EHD, and an IPOD Video - but importantly, a lovely picnic lunch at a lake with my family).

In the early morning hairdressor’s appointment, I take the latest scrapping magazines through my mailbox - it seems to be the only time nowadays that I have to sit down and actually read a magazine. I had the latest Simple Scrapbooks to read - a magazine that grows on me more and more.

Did anyone notice the big fullpage advert at the end of it?

Digital Done Different, unwrapping this summer. This appears to be an alliance of some high-players in the traditional paper-based industry, plus one Photo Editor company - LumaPix.

The companies -

  • AMM
  • Autumn Leaves
  • Creative Imaginations
  • Daisy Ds
  • DMD
  • K & Co
  • KI Memories
  • LumaPix
  • Rastar
  • scrapbook.com
  • SEI
  • Westrim Crafts

There is a frontpage on the web now - www.dotSCRAP.net - which just shows us the same graphics as found in the SS magazine, but you can sign up for a newsletter.

Is this really the movement of some paper-based companies into digital products?

Dang, but I'm a bit late with this...As mentioned on her blog, Scrapability, today (Saturday the 17th) is Michelle Thompson's birthday. You should go wish her well. I continue to be impressed with her insights, her blog discussions, her topic

I saw that too. I think it is a smart idea on their part. And it may get some of us traditional scrappers interested in digital if some of our favorite companies are on board.

Happy Belated! Hubby's AND Mom's Bday (and Sir McCartney's, BTW) is/was the 18th. And Father's Day landed on the 18th over here, too! Ouch!

Glad to hear you had a good day.

Hey there! I was just googling dotscrap when I found both your blog entry and the following snippet from the Memory Trends lineup of speakers:

"Jill Miller is the marketing director for LumaPix, Inc., a special effects software company at the core of the dotScrap Alliance, a consortium of leading scrapbooking media and paper arts manufacturers united to assist the independent retailer in the evolution of hybrid and pure digital scrapbooking. Learn more about the dotScrap Alliance at: www.dotScrap.com

Jill possesses a broad perspective in both the business needs and consumer demands of this industry having previously consulted for many major crafts manufacturers, including Hewlett-Packard, Avery Dennison and Reynolds Aluminum. She can be seen weekly as a regular guest on DIY-Scrapbooking having filmed 28 episodes to date. Her work has also be featured on other television crafting and entertaining shows, as well as in both Borders and Target stores. She is the sole author of three scrapbooking idea books published internationally by Watson Guptill Publishers and has over 1,000 published articles and pages on the art of scrapbooking and photo crafting, having pursued her passion for 12 years, beginning when she was bedridden with her third son, who now loves to look through all those albums!"

I have the first version of Lumapix. I have been hearing aobut Dotscrap & now it's here. I have been reading the info BUT I totally don't understand. Does it come with digital kits onboard & you buy more kits as needed? Before I sign up for the upgrade, I need to know HOW MUCH the kits will cost. I have been buying digital kits from several online stores. Will the prices be comparable?
