Multitude of Thoughts Brimming
Friday, August 8, 2008 at 08:13AM Still being on holiday, with limited online time (enforced by my own thinking and holiday needs) I find that my mind is just starting to tick over. The first few days I could honestly suggest I thought about little and nothing, other than getting into the routine of having fun with my family. We're on an activities-centric holiday - no lounging around a pool, more like bicycling from one event booked to another.
But I managed to quickly download the next installment of How To Think Sideways, and also start reading one of the hundreds of PDF files I brought on holiday thinking I would be able to learn some of this blogging / IM stuff. Wrong...it took three days before I read the HTTS, and I'm aware that I am missing some big stuff in the 30DC zone also - but watching videos on 11MB of internet connectivity is - well, it isn't.
So, HTTS asks me this week to apply some challenges to my MUSE (which is currently, I see bemusedly, a HE), and come up with three new ideas for stories. Trying to train that guy obviously doesn't work, but he's come up with about 1 1/2 stories so far, to some level of detail. One is based on here, where we are currently hand-feeding ducks and squirrels from out of our villa living room door. So one story has a squirrel in it. That seems both funny and lovely to me.
And I've come up with not one, but two niches for my 30DC / Blog Mastermind challenges. The first will be done as a wordpress blog, following along with BM and 30DC which provided the SEO and competitor analysis I needed to find the niche. It's for something I want to get into, but not something which will take a huge amount of effort. I'll be doing it like a newbie exploring the field type blog.
The second I will hold off on until I have more knowledge, because it will take a bit more. It's where my passion sits, (and includes scrapbooking, and writing, naturally) but may be better done through a Joomla website rather than wordpress. So, we'll see if I can start that off sometime before the new year. In the meantime I'm struggling to find a domain name to purchase for that one, without finding that it's been taken. It's a niche which has a lot of competitors but no overall defined master-competitor, just little bits that people have put up all over the place. And again, it's going to be a personal undertaking as I explore the domain, link to others and generally have fun with it all.
Now, I've got an appointment with a swimming pool, and later some computer activities making a mini-mousemat with my daughter. We will also be trying out some badminton and actually rock-climbing.
Still trying out this Windows Live Writer for publishing and drafting offline also. But the plugins had me downloading .NET framework - which is something you really don't want to do whilst on limited wireless access, let me tell you. Blinkin' Microsoft.

I wish I was getting in the pool rather than getting ready for work! Have a great day! Oh, and I tried the Live Writer once....before it supposedly had capabilities to post photos with blogger...but I prefer to just do my drafts online anyway so I can finish them from my work computer...cannot do that with a desktop writer.
Oh, but I want to upgrade to Outlook 2007....did you know you can post blog posts from it?
